What is EMDR Consultation with an approved Consultant?

Congratulations, therapist, on making it through EMDR basic training! One of the next steps towards EMDRIA certification is 20 hours of Clinical Consultation. Clinical consultation is a space where we can explore, reflect, and consider treatment options for clients through the format of EMDR. It’s also a place for us to nerd out and develop our skills. As an approved Consultant, I can offer 20 hours of consultation towards your certification.

Why should I work with you?

I am a certified EMDR therapist who has been practicing EMDR since 2018. Within EMDR, I specialize in working with somatic presentations of trauma, anxiety, and OCD. This might look like dissociation, chronic pain, difficulty sleeping, panic attacks, eating problems, intrusive thoughts and rumination, bathroom accidents… any sign that a body is saying, “Hey! Something’s not right!” I’m particularly skilled at helping people who have never felt safe to figure out how to develop a safe connection with their body. With this speciality and my training as a Marriage and Family Therapist, it also makes sense that I do some of my best work with children and with people who experienced challenging childhoods.

I have additional training in the following modalities within EMDR and am happy to discuss them with you: Somatic-Focused EMDR, Progressive Approach, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed EMDR, FLASH Technique, Sandtray, Play & Art Therapy, and Systemic Approaches.

Visit my about me page to learn a bit more about me generally, including my history working with folks in the context of domestic violence and difficult immigration histories.

I’m available to work with therapists nationally through telehealth and in-person at my Havertown, PA office.

What does this consultation look like?

Consultation is an hour of feedback focusing on you, your clients, and your work. We will review presentation forms, treatment ideas, and audio, video, or near-verbatim transcripts. I’ll support your development as an EMDR provider while you bring your clients closer to their treatment goals. We’ll make sure you are clear on the standard application of EMDR therapy and the AIP model, and then we’ll work together to get creative and modify the model to better support clients’ needs with empirically supported interventions. Before we get going, we’ll develop a learning contract and make sure we’re set up to meet your needs. Please note that EMDR consultation is not a substitute for clinical supervision if you are a pre-licensed therapist.

Can I bring a friend?

I offer individual consultation and triadic consultation within a one hour format. Triadic supervision would consist of you + a colleague + me and we would split session time discussing cases for both of you. I ask you to reach out as a unit, if this is the option that works best for you.

What does this group consultation look like?

Maybe you’re already certified or aren’t looking for EMDRIA certification. Maybe you are looking to consult with me and others on your clinical matters. This group is for you! In these groups up to three therapists (plus me) will discuss clinical cases and other professional development concerns. We still center your needs, and have the added benefit of another mind working away at our collective clinical situations.

These groups meet on the 3rd Friday of each month.
